Full steam ahead!

The funerary complexes of Ipi and Henenu hummed with activity today. The team members worked all together, doing their best in order to recover the time lost and to advance in the knowledge of the funerary structures assigned to our project by the Egyptian authorities.

Early in the morning, all the members gathered together at the table and, after a quick breakfast, they took the equipment and ride the two vans that usually bring us to the site. Once in the field, the different teams focused on their tasks.

Today, two of our archaeologists went to the Eastern sector of our concession with the aim of starting archaeological work in this new area. We are certain that this zone will give a huge amount of information and perhaps more than one surprise. The task today was to survey and settle with the total station a grid of points as a first step prior to the digging.

In the funerary complex of the vizier Ipi, Kei and Hazem continued with the study of the jars found during the last season in the mummification deposit. Raúl took the place of Mohamed taking care of the archaeological tasks, while Dina processed and registered the upcoming finds. At the same time, but within Ipi’s tomb, our forensic doctors unveiled the knowledge kept during centuries in the mummified corpses of the ancient Egyptians. Very close to them, our technologist studied the mason stones that once served to dig in the rock such impressive monuments.

Further in the West, the royal treasurer Henenu contemplated from the realm of Osiris how Kelly and Lisa are restoring his memory. Today, they advanced in the cleaning of the courtyard, which starts to show interesting features and findings.

We want to think that, far from being angry or to try to curse us, the tomb owners who built up these monuments look at us with mercy. As we restore their memory as their funerary priests did once, we help to mention their names “among those who walk on the land”.
