Early this morning our moudir left to Cairo, to visit the Ministry of Antiquities and try to get an update on the situation regarding our security clearance. We all hope to have him back soon and bringing good news.
In the meantime, the workshop sessions organized to maximize the time in the most productive way possible have continued. The first session was led by our engineer Inma López, who taught us the different scopes of application of 3D technology in the field of archaeology. The team has been able not only to see a 3D scanner working, but also some of them have operated it, under the supervision of Inma, by borrowing some of the objects used as decoration in the hotel.
After that, some of the members of the team visited the mortuary temple of Ramesses II, where Carlos and Raul took over for the moudir by giving an explanation of the different parts of the temple and the scenes depicted therein, and they even translated some of the hieroglyphic inscriptions on the walls. The youngest members of the team have had the opportunity of implementing in situ the knowledge acquired in the Egyptian language courses they took during the last semester at the University of Alcalá. During this time, our photographer Patri Mora has been taking some action shots of our visit.
After lunch, our headquarters at the Marsam hotel were humming with activity. Jónatan and Raúl explained to the new members the registration system for the archaeological findings used by the MKTP in order to assure correct recording and storage of the materials. Following that, the different heads of each sector –Kelly, Mohamed and Sebastian– had a meeting with the members of their teams to go through the working strategies and establish the first steps to follow prior to the upcoming opening of the tombs and, therefore, the starting of the fieldwork.
The evening was closed by the last seminar offered by our archaeologist Sebastian Falk, who, as head of the Eastern sector, introduced us the area and the methodology that will be used once the archaeological work will start.
