José Pérez Negre is currently a researcher at the IEEC (Spanish Institute of Egyptology and Coptology) and the Director of the PGIS/2023-1E project, focused on the creation of a SiteGIS, which deals with the use of mudbrick as a constructive element is adressed throughout the history of ancient Egypt from a dual perspective, diachronic and synchronic. Parallel to the completion of the postgraduate course in Classical Archaeology «Rome: Topography and Urbanism of the Urbs» convened by the Spanish School of History and Archaeology in Roma (EEHAR-CSIC) and his doctoral studies (program number 695/296-D) in the Department of Archaeology, Prehistory and Ancient History of the University of Valencia, he has been professionally dedicated to the archaeological field between 1999 and 2017, carrying out the technical direction of more than a hundred heritage interventions: excavations, surveys, impact studies, museum projects and GIS modeling.

Since 2018, his research has established in the domain of Egyptology, after a fruitful formative period at the Academy of Biblical, Classical and Oriental Languages (San Vicente Ferrer Faculty of Theology-Catholic University of Valencia), obtaining a degree in Akkadian, Coptic and Egyptian Hieroglyphics, and at the UAH through its Formación Superior en Egiptología and Master’s programs in Egyptology.

After getting his bachelor’s degree in 1999 at the Department of Archaeology, Prehistory and Ancient History of the University of Valencia, he became a member of the Research Group “SEMA” (Seminar on Women’s Studies in Antiquity) throughout its first two annuities, focusing on gender studies linked to the slave world (slaves, freedwomen and female profesional collegia). Between 2000 and 2006, he specialized on settlement, territory and landscape archaeology, as well as in the analysis of late pottery material of African origin. At the same time, he became a lecturer and workshop leader for the Valencia Provincial Council in the fields of “Gender Studies” and “Experimental Archaeology”.

A direct consequence of his academic and professional background is the publication of a large number of articles and presentations at national and international congresses, an excellent example being the works on Roman rural settlement published in separate articles in the Proceedings of the XXVI National Congress of Archaeology held in Zaragoza (2001) or his participation as a speaker at the Convegno Internazionale di studi su L’Africa Romana, organized in Olbia by the Association Internationale d’Épigraphie Grecque et Latina (1996), the First and Second Seminar on Women’s Studies in Antiquity (Valencia, 1997 and 1998) and the First National Congress on Greek Religion and Mythology.
